The Neurodivergent Black People Discord is part of The Neurospicy Ecosystem by NBW, a network of communities supporting more than 50,000 members.

As our communities have grown, members have consistently requested more opportunities for ongoing conversation outside of Facebook posts and comment sections. In response, we have maintained chats across Messenger, GroupMe, WhatsApp, and other platforms, including spaces organized around productivity, shared interests, support needs, geographic areas, and community discussion.

Those spaces demonstrated a clear need for more continuous connection. They also revealed the limitations of managing a growing community across multiple applications, separate invitation links, and disconnected group chats.

Discord allows us to bring those conversations into ++one++ organized community.

💬 Why Discord?

Discord provides more structure and flexibility than a traditional group chat while still allowing members to communicate casually and in real time.

Members can access multiple conversations and activities from one community instead of joining a separate chat for every topic or interest.

✨ Organized Conversation Spaces Topics, interests, activities, resources, and community discussions can be separated into dedicated channels, making information easier to follow and locate.

🔕 More Control Over Notifications Members can choose which conversations they want to follow closely and adjust notifications according to their own preferences.

🧵 Better Conversation Organization Separate channels and discussion threads reduce the likelihood that questions, resources, and important conversations will be lost within one continuous message stream.

🧑🏾‍💻 Body Doubling and Coworking Access Members can use designated spaces to work, study, clean, complete administrative tasks, or focus on personal projects alongside others.

🎙️ Built In Voice Spaces Voice rooms provide an additional way to connect without requiring a separately scheduled Zoom meeting or group call.

🫶🏾 Optional Identity Based Spaces All subscribers receive access to the main Neurodivergent Black People community. Additional private spaces are available for women, men, and gender expansive members who choose them during onboarding.

📍 Room to Expand by Interest and Location New channels can be added as community needs develop without requiring members to join another external chat or manage another invitation link.

📚 Centralized Resources Important information and resources can remain organized and accessible instead of becoming buried within an active group conversation.

Some people are looking for regular conversation. Others may be interested in productivity support, shared interests, professional connections, local community, resources, or simply having access to a space they can visit when they want to engage.
